Shalom, Salaam, Tikkun-Olam, & Peace

A Christmas Project of Hope and Cheer

December 24 and/or December 25

West High School – Cafeteria
241 North 300 West, Salt Lake City, Utah

For 19 years under National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) leadership, members and friends of Utah’s Jewish and Muslim communities have served others less fortunate in our community during the Christmas holidays. Joining us this year will be West High School English Second Language Department, National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, and faculty. Our project, Shalom, Salaam, Tikkun Olam, is done in the spirit of Tikkun Olam (helping to repair the world), Tzedekah (justice) and Peace (shalom in Hebrew or salaam in Arabic). For all our efforts, National NCJW gave this project a “Vision for America showcase award,” 2011.

Last year, we (you!) helped 1500 people. This, our 20th year, we expect to help more lonely and frail seniors, those at-risk, and–with more schools signing up for help–new refugees. We will serve 600 homebound senior citizens, families (150 individuals) among the working poor or in transition, a battered women’s shelter (+75 individuals), 25+ single women head of households, and 105 refugee families representing 500+ children/adults from countries as diverse as Bosnia, Congo, Iraq, Liberia, Sudan, Myanmar, Somalia and Bhutan.
