Tisha B’Av
August 6, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
This coming Saturday night, August 6th marks the beginning of Tisha B’Av – a day of communal mourning. Traditionally, it commemorates the destruction of the Temple (first, and second). But today, recognizing the wisdom that is to be gained from grief, liberal communities have expanded the meaning of Tisha B’Av to shape a day dedicated to mourning the many personal, national and global sorrows afflicting our souls.
Rather than pretending that everything is OK, we wail in community – and in this crying out we find the strength not merely to endure, but to hope.
Join CBY (August 6th) from 7-8:30, for a discussion beginning with the classical Jewish text, The Book of Lamentations and then a turn to Solnit’s teachings detailed in Hope in the Dark.
