Shabbat service Feb 3rd 6:00 pm

February 3, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please join Chavurah B’Yachad in Congregation Kol Ami’s Youth Lounge on Friday, February 3rd as we celebrate Shabbat Shira (Shabbat of Song).   We will gather for supper blessings and pot-luck (vegetarian) supper at 6pm.   Our service will begin at 7pm and last about an hour and will be led by Maeera Shreiber and Rob Mayer.   The service will be available via Zoom (please request), although we make no guarantee regarding the quality of the sound or video!

The torah portion is Beshalach and includes the story of God splitting the Sea of Reeds.   Once the Israelites reached the other side, they broke out into song, so bring your timbrels or other percussion instruments.

February 3rd is also the beginning of Refugee Shabbat, an annual event organized by HIAS (established as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society in 1902) as a time for congregations, organizations, and individuals in the U.S. and around the world to think about the experience of refugees and asylum seekers.  We will be incorporating this theme into our evening.

The holiday of Tu Bishvat, the celebration of trees and all they give us, starts on Sunday evening, February 5th, so we propose that you incorporate one of the following items into your contribution to our vegetarian potluck dinner: olives, dates, apples, figs, almonds, walnuts, pomegranates, oranges, or any other tree product.
