Rabbi Steve will be coming to lead our last Erev Shabbat service of 5777 and spend Shabbat with us, in part with a Q&A session about our proposed trip to Israel in 2018. So please mark your calendar for Memorial Day weekend’s Shabbat, May 26-27.
Our Shabbat potluck and service will be on Friday, May 26 (6:00 pm dinner in the Youth Lounge, 7:30 pm service in Pepper Chapel). Alan Fogel and Karen Nielsen-Anson will lead the music for us.
Here are some details from Rabbi Steve, who will be joining us for Shabbat this week! We hope you are able to join us for any or all of our three gatherings:
What was asked of us at Sinai? And what Torah are we hoping to learn this year?
Four days after this Shabbat in the Jewish calendar is the Holy Day of Shavuot, celebrating the giving of the Torah at Mt. Sinai. As part of a wonderful service of song and spirit we will reflect on our calling from Sinai as an “ethical nation.” Midrash also teaches that every soul that would ever live was there. So we will ask, “what did God ask of my soul at Sinai? And what Torah, what wisdom do I hope to learn this year?”
Music at our service will be led by Karen Nielson-Anson, Alan Fogel and YOU!
Vegetarian potluck dinner, 6:00 pm in the Kol Ami Youth Lounge, followed by service at 7:30 in the Pepper Chapel.
On Saturday, May 27, Rabbi Steve will lead a contemplative hike for us (location TBA) at about 10:00 am. In the evening, there will be a dessert gathering and info session at about 7:00 pm (location TBA) to learn more about the proposed trip to Israel that Rabbi Steve and Keshet Tours will be leading in late April-early May 2018.
